A lesson on Sūrah al-Fātiḥah, covering the meaning of each āyah, the conversation Hadith, and adhkār of standing from rukūʿ.

The conversation Hadith: The lesson opens with Allah responding to the servant āyah by āyah as he recites Sūrah al-Fātiḥah in ṣalāh. Learners review and memorise it before working through the sūrah, so that each āyah is read with an awareness of what Allah says in return.

Bismillāh through ar-Raḥmān ar-Raḥīm and al-ḥamd: The lesson covers why every action begins with Allah’s Name, the distinction between ar-Raḥmān and ar-Raḥīm, and why every blessing including the sending of Messengers, the Books, and Paradise itself stems from Allah’s mercy. Al-ḥamd is unpacked as praise, gratitude, and a negation of shirk, with ar-Rabb explained across its full range.

مَٰلِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ: The Hadith in Bukhārī on Allah rolling up the heavens in His Right Hand and declaring His kingship is quoted. The lesson asks learners to visualise standing in front of Allah the āyah that makes you tremble and humble yourself before you move into the āyah of ʿibādah.

Worship is defined as utmost humility combined with utmost love, and the repetition of iyyāka is noted. The closing āyāt examines the three groups those blessed, those with knowledge who did not act, and those who lost their way through lack of knowledge with good company presented as part of staying on the straight path.

Adhkār of standing from rukūʿ: Two adhkār from Muslim are added to the adhkār bank the first filling the heavens, earth, and all between them with praise, and the longer second form affirming that none can withhold what Allah gives and none can give what He withholds.

A lesson on five practical steps outside ṣalāh for developing khushūʿ, covering maʿrifah, sins, sunnah prayers, and eliminating distractions.

Attaining the maʿrifah of Allah: The lesson opens by sorting the Names of Allah into two categories those inspiring awe and those inspiring love before establishing that deeper knowledge of Allah is the foundation of khushūʿ. Learners consider what maʿrifah is and how it is built.

The magnitude of ṣalāh and the impact of sins: The Hadith in Bukhārī on ʿUthmān رضي الله عنه states that whoever performs wuḍūʾ as the Prophet ﷺ did and prays two rakʿah without letting his thoughts wander, Allah will forgive all his previous sins. Qur’an 83:14 follows on sins leaving a covering over the heart, and the story of al-Rabīʿ b. Khuthaym illustrates the connection between ṣalāh and nūr.

Safeguarding the eyes, tongue, stomach, and heart: The lesson asks how sins through each of these channels affect khushūʿ, and invites learners to think practically about how to protect them.

Punctuality with sunnah prayers: Sunnah prayers are compared to stretching before exercise preparation before the farḍ, and compensation for their deficiencies. The rawātib are listed with their rewards, and the Hadith on ṣalāh being the first deed a servant is held accountable for on the Day of Judgement is introduced to anchor the discussion.

Eliminating distractions: Ibn Kathīr is quoted on khushūʿ belonging only to the one who empties his heart entirely for ṣalāh and prioritises it over everything else. Learners identify their own distractions and how to address them, and the istiʿādhah from Aḥmad seeking protection from Shayṭān’s incitement to madness, pride, and reprehensible poetry is added to the adhkār bank.

A session on khawf and khashyah for learners covering the fear of Allah, its positive outcomes, and how to build it in the heart.

Khawf and khashyah distinguished: The session explains the difference between general fear and khashyah the awe-filled fear rooted in knowledge of Allah, drawing on Qur’an 35:28 and the principle that the more a person knows Allah, the greater their awe of Him will be.

What a believer fears: Learners work through the specific objects of a believer’s fear: punishment in this world, a bad ending, the punishment of the grave, standing before Allah, the horrors of the Day of Judgement, the torment of Hell-fire, and deeds not being accepted.

Fear as a deterrent from sin: Qur’an 55:46 is quoted with the commentary of Mujāhid رحمه الله, who describes it as referring to a person who, on the verge of sinning, remembers the standing before his Lord and stops. Abū Sulaymān al-Dārānī is quoted on fear burning away the sources of lust and worldly attachments.

The positive outcomes of fearing Allah: The session lists what fear produces shade on the Day of Judgement, freedom from Hell-fire, the ability to benefit from reminders, and Allah’s pleasure anchored by the Hadith Qudsi in Ibn Ḥibbān on Allah not combining two fears for His servant.

How to build the fear of Allah: Five means are offered: reflecting on Allah’s greatness, engaging in tadabbur of the Qur’an, reflecting on the hereafter, reflecting on one’s sins and their consequences, and asking Allah directly as our beloved Prophet ﷺ did in the duʿa recorded in Nasāʾī.

This profound session invites adult learners to reflect on the impact of Allah’s closeness, practise taking an audit of their actions, and explore the characteristics of the people of Hell whilst developing strategies to avoid them.

Session 2: Journey Through Life

Opens with reflection on the nature walk from Session 1, asking what thoughts of Allah emerged whilst observing His magnificent creation

Explores the four stages of life: on the ground, under the ground, the Day of Judgement, and the eternal abode (Paradise or Hell-Fire), understanding that the first, shortest stage is most important as our status in all other stages depends on how we behave in it

Reflects on Allah’s might in creation, understanding that recreating is easier than creating from scratch, and that disbelievers are in confusion (labs) about their recreation

Contemplates the human being as the biggest proof of Allah’s existence, power, and might, sharing amazing facts about human creation whilst understanding that Allah fully knows what our souls whisper

Discovers that Allah’s absolute knowledge extends from grand things (mentioned in verse 4) to minutiae, inspiring taqwa so that we wouldn’t dare say a single word that displeases Allah or even dwell on bad thoughts

Reflects on Allah being closer than our jugular vein, understanding that just as the jugular vein is close yet can go unnoticed, Allah’s presence is near even if not always perceived, recognising as Imam Qushayri said that this verse brings awe, dread, and fear for one group whilst comfort, solace, and peace for another

Learns about the two recording angels sitting on the right and left, discovering that the angel on the left delays registering sins for six hours to allow for repentance and seeking forgiveness, revealing Allah’s mercy

Understands that not a single word is uttered without a vigilant observer (raqib) ready to write it down diligently (atid), reflecting on why the recording of speech is particularly emphasised

Completes the daily audit challenge, writing down positive/kind things and negative/hurtful things said or done in the last 24 hours

Explores death and resurrection, understanding that the throes of death (sakrah) bring an overwhelming, almost drunken state that even our beloved Prophet ﷺ felt, that at death reality becomes clear with no denial (bil-haqq), and that we all know death is certain yet delay preparing for it (tahid)

Reflects on the trumpet being blown for the Day of warning, understanding that the angel has already placed it on his lips awaiting the command, and writing how one would spend today if the trumpet were to be blown tomorrow

Discovers the companions on Judgement Day including an angel to drive forward (sa’iq) and another to bear witness (shahid), similar to police arriving with a criminal in court

Understands the truth becoming clear when the veil of heedlessness is lifted, making one’s sight sharp on that Day

Explores secrets unveiled when one’s accompanying angel (qarin) presents the ready record, reflecting on what sins Allah is concealing today, how it would feel if unveiled, and taking a moment to sincerely repent

Examines the verdict against every stubborn disbeliever (kaffar anid), understanding these verses were revealed regarding Walid bin Mughirah, and that kaffar is an exaggeration of kafir showing Allah gave chance upon chance but they remained extremely stubborn

Identifies five attributes of people of Hell: stubborn disbeliever, withholder of good (manna’), transgressor (mu’tad), doubter (murib), and setting up other gods with Allah

Engages in deep journalling activity examining personal struggles with stubbornness, withholding good, transgression, and doubt, seeking forgiveness and asking Allah to remove these traits

Reflects on the debate between leaders and followers, and between individuals and the devil, who will claim he did not make them transgress but rather they were far astray on their own

Understands it’s too late for disputes as Allah had already given warning through the Quran and Messengers, and that the verdict is final as Allah’s word cannot be changed and He is never unjust to His servants through His perfect knowledge and perfect justice

Perfect for adult learners in Islamic study circles, community programmes, and Ramadan preparations, this presentation nurtures hearts through authentic Quranic tarbiyah rooted in the values of pure heart, responsibility, and certainty.

This profound four-session series invites teenagers to embark on a transformative journey through Surah Qaf, exploring the glorious Quran, reflecting on Allah’s signs in creation, and understanding the resurrection.

Session 1: A Wake-Up Call

Begins with reflecting on the centrality of the Quran in our lives through honest self-examination, asking how important the Quran truly is on a scale of one to ten

Explores why our beloved Prophet ﷺ would recite Surah Qaf in large gatherings including Jumuʿah salah, Friday sermons, the two Eid salahs, and Fajr salah

Examines the powerful beginning of the surah where Allah takes an oath by the glorious Quran, understanding the function of oaths and the meaning of al-Majid (lofty, glorious, majestic)

Identifies the two key issues raised by the Quraysh: their amazement at receiving a human warner, and their denial of resurrection after becoming dust

Discovers Allah’s absolute knowledge through understanding that everything is recorded in al-Lawh al-Mahfuz, and explores the consequence of rejecting truth, leading to confusion and loss

Reflects deeply on Allah’s signs in creation including the flawless sky, the earth with its mountains and joyous plants, blessed water from the sky, and tall palm trees laden with dates

Understands the similarities between water from the sky and revelation from the sky, both being sources of life

Examines how Allah brings dead land back to life as proof of resurrection, and learns from history by studying nations who denied their messengers including the people of Noah, Rass, Thamud, Ad, Pharaoh, Lot, the Forest Dwellers, and Tubba

Includes engaging activities such as drawing aspects of nature, the ABC fruit and vegetable game, matching pictures to ayat, and a four-session competition to encourage memorisation and active participation

Perfect for teenage learners in madrasahs, homeschools, and Islamic study circles, this presentation nurtures hearts through authentic Quranic tarbiyah rooted in the values of certainty, servitude, and love for Allah’s words.

Help young learners understand the supreme importance of salah through clear Islamic teachings with this engaging lesson. Children explore why salah is the second pillar of Islam and discover that it will be the first action they are asked about on the Day of Judgement, understanding that if salah is good, they will be successful.

Through interactive activities and authentic hadith, learners discover that salah is the greatest expression of ʿubudiyyah (servitude to Allah), with every movement showing humility before our Creator. The lesson includes practical guidance on taking care of salah, helping children understand that just as our bodies need food and drink to survive, our hearts need salah to stay alive.

This thoughtfully designed lesson helps learners understand that salah should be the most important part of their day, as it keeps them connected to Allah throughout daily life. Through reflection and creative activities, learners discover that salah is not just about physical movements but about fully humbling ourselves before Allah, showing that we need Him, and loving Him more than anyone else.
