A lesson on the inner dimensions of each ṣalāh posture, the secret of sujūd, and two additional duʿas for prostration.

The inner dimensions of ṣalāh: The lesson moves through each posture from wuḍūʾ to salām, asking what each one demands of the heart. Al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī opens the lesson with a direct warning: beware of asking Allah for Paradise and seeking protection from Hell-fire while your heart is heedless and you do not know what your tongue is saying.

The bismillāh and the takbīr: Saying bismillāh is explained as both a seeking of help through Allah’s Name and a seeking of blessing from Him. The lesson asks what should be present in the heart at the takbīr, what ṣalāh is a manifestation of, and what it means to bow mentally in rukūʿ.

The secret of sujūd: The lesson draws on the account of Abū Dharr رضي الله عنه and the question Rabīʿah رضي الله عنه put to our beloved Prophet ﷺ, and establishes why the servant is closest to Allah in prostration. Muslim b. Yasār is quoted repeating in sujūd: “When will I meet You and You are happy with me?”

Adhkār of sujūd: Two duʿas are added to the adhkār bank duʿa from Muslim asking Allah to forgive all sins, minor and major, first and last, public and private; and the duʿa ʿĀʾishah رضي الله عنها heard our beloved Prophet ﷺ making in prostration at night, recorded in Nasāʾī, seeking protection in Allah’s pleasure from His anger and in His forgiveness from His punishment.

Salām and what comes after: The lesson closes with why sending salām upon our beloved Prophet ﷺ at the end of ṣalāh should be a source of happiness, how a person should feel once their ṣalāh is complete, and what sujūd will look like as the mark of the believers on the Day of Judgement.

A session on khawf and khashyah for learners covering the fear of Allah, its positive outcomes, and how to build it in the heart.

Khawf and khashyah distinguished: The session explains the difference between general fear and khashyah the awe-filled fear rooted in knowledge of Allah, drawing on Qur’an 35:28 and the principle that the more a person knows Allah, the greater their awe of Him will be.

What a believer fears: Learners work through the specific objects of a believer’s fear: punishment in this world, a bad ending, the punishment of the grave, standing before Allah, the horrors of the Day of Judgement, the torment of Hell-fire, and deeds not being accepted.

Fear as a deterrent from sin: Qur’an 55:46 is quoted with the commentary of Mujāhid رحمه الله, who describes it as referring to a person who, on the verge of sinning, remembers the standing before his Lord and stops. Abū Sulaymān al-Dārānī is quoted on fear burning away the sources of lust and worldly attachments.

The positive outcomes of fearing Allah: The session lists what fear produces shade on the Day of Judgement, freedom from Hell-fire, the ability to benefit from reminders, and Allah’s pleasure anchored by the Hadith Qudsi in Ibn Ḥibbān on Allah not combining two fears for His servant.

How to build the fear of Allah: Five means are offered: reflecting on Allah’s greatness, engaging in tadabbur of the Qur’an, reflecting on the hereafter, reflecting on one’s sins and their consequences, and asking Allah directly as our beloved Prophet ﷺ did in the duʿa recorded in Nasāʾī.

What does winter mean for a believer? This lesson, “Winter: The Believer’s Season“, moves through five focused themes, drawing on Hadith from Bukhārī and Tirmidhī, Qur’an Surah As-Sajdah verse 16–17, and reflections from the early Muslims, to help learners see the season as one with its own spiritual rhythm.

The lesson opens with an honest question about the winter blues before settling into its five points. Fasting in winter is introduced through a Hadith in Tirmidhī. The night prayer receives the most attention: Qur’an As-Sajdah verse 16–17 is quoted in full, Abū Sulaymān al-Dārānī speaks to the joy of qiyām al-layl, and learners are given practical tips for waking for tahajjud. The Hadith in Bukhārī on Hell-fire breathing out in summer and winter anchors the section on gratitude. The session closes with accepted times for duʿa and the specific duʿas for rain, thunder, and wind. Learners are asked to reflect and respond throughout, not simply to listen.

This session covers:

Winter as a fasting opportunity: The session cites the Hadith in Tirmidhī in which our beloved Prophet ﷺ described fasting in winter as easy, and encourages learners to use the season for qaḍā fasts and voluntary days such as Mondays and Thursdays.

The night prayer and its reward: Learners engage with tahajjud through Qur’an 32:16–17, a Hadith in Tirmidhī on qiyām al-layl, and the personal reflection of Abū Sulaymān al-Dārānī. Practical advice on waking for tahajjud is included.

Hell-fire as a reminder: The Hadith in Bukhārī is presented in which Hell-fire complained to Allah and was permitted to breathe out, with the extreme heat of summer and bitter cold of winter given as the result.

Gratitude and concern for others: Learners list specific blessings and discuss how to thank Allah. The session includes the account of Saʿīd al-Kalbī, who wept during a cold night out of compassion for the poor of the Ummah.

Duʿas for winter conditions: The session covers accepted times for duʿa, citing a Hadith in Ḥākim, and teaches the specific duʿas for rain, thunder, and wind, with their Arabic text.

This profound session invites adult learners to reflect on the impact of Allah’s closeness, practise taking an audit of their actions, and explore the characteristics of the people of Hell whilst developing strategies to avoid them.

Session 2: Journey Through Life

Opens with reflection on the nature walk from Session 1, asking what thoughts of Allah emerged whilst observing His magnificent creation

Explores the four stages of life: on the ground, under the ground, the Day of Judgement, and the eternal abode (Paradise or Hell-Fire), understanding that the first, shortest stage is most important as our status in all other stages depends on how we behave in it

Reflects on Allah’s might in creation, understanding that recreating is easier than creating from scratch, and that disbelievers are in confusion (labs) about their recreation

Contemplates the human being as the biggest proof of Allah’s existence, power, and might, sharing amazing facts about human creation whilst understanding that Allah fully knows what our souls whisper

Discovers that Allah’s absolute knowledge extends from grand things (mentioned in verse 4) to minutiae, inspiring taqwa so that we wouldn’t dare say a single word that displeases Allah or even dwell on bad thoughts

Reflects on Allah being closer than our jugular vein, understanding that just as the jugular vein is close yet can go unnoticed, Allah’s presence is near even if not always perceived, recognising as Imam Qushayri said that this verse brings awe, dread, and fear for one group whilst comfort, solace, and peace for another

Learns about the two recording angels sitting on the right and left, discovering that the angel on the left delays registering sins for six hours to allow for repentance and seeking forgiveness, revealing Allah’s mercy

Understands that not a single word is uttered without a vigilant observer (raqib) ready to write it down diligently (atid), reflecting on why the recording of speech is particularly emphasised

Completes the daily audit challenge, writing down positive/kind things and negative/hurtful things said or done in the last 24 hours

Explores death and resurrection, understanding that the throes of death (sakrah) bring an overwhelming, almost drunken state that even our beloved Prophet ﷺ felt, that at death reality becomes clear with no denial (bil-haqq), and that we all know death is certain yet delay preparing for it (tahid)

Reflects on the trumpet being blown for the Day of warning, understanding that the angel has already placed it on his lips awaiting the command, and writing how one would spend today if the trumpet were to be blown tomorrow

Discovers the companions on Judgement Day including an angel to drive forward (sa’iq) and another to bear witness (shahid), similar to police arriving with a criminal in court

Understands the truth becoming clear when the veil of heedlessness is lifted, making one’s sight sharp on that Day

Explores secrets unveiled when one’s accompanying angel (qarin) presents the ready record, reflecting on what sins Allah is concealing today, how it would feel if unveiled, and taking a moment to sincerely repent

Examines the verdict against every stubborn disbeliever (kaffar anid), understanding these verses were revealed regarding Walid bin Mughirah, and that kaffar is an exaggeration of kafir showing Allah gave chance upon chance but they remained extremely stubborn

Identifies five attributes of people of Hell: stubborn disbeliever, withholder of good (manna’), transgressor (mu’tad), doubter (murib), and setting up other gods with Allah

Engages in deep journalling activity examining personal struggles with stubbornness, withholding good, transgression, and doubt, seeking forgiveness and asking Allah to remove these traits

Reflects on the debate between leaders and followers, and between individuals and the devil, who will claim he did not make them transgress but rather they were far astray on their own

Understands it’s too late for disputes as Allah had already given warning through the Quran and Messengers, and that the verdict is final as Allah’s word cannot be changed and He is never unjust to His servants through His perfect knowledge and perfect justice

Perfect for adult learners in Islamic study circles, community programmes, and Ramadan preparations, this presentation nurtures hearts through authentic Quranic tarbiyah rooted in the values of pure heart, responsibility, and certainty.

Help young learners understand how Allah defends His beloved Messenger and discover the beautiful name Al-Mawla (The Protector) with this comprehensive lesson covering Surah al-Masad: Ayahs 4-5. This engaging lesson teaches young learners about Umm Jamil’s wicked behaviour whilst empowering them to respond with patience and trust in Allah’s protection when facing difficulties. Through the compelling narrative of Umm Jamil’s hostility towards our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, they will witness the miraculous way Allah protects His special servants. The lesson brilliantly demonstrates how despite the Prophet’s ﷺ calm and patient response to cruelty, Allah always defends those who follow His path, showcased through the miraculous incident near the Kaʿbah where Umm Jamil could not see the Prophet ﷺ despite him sitting right next to Abu Bakr.

Young learners will explore how Umm Jamil’s beautiful appearance and expensive necklace could not save her from punishment, teaching that helping others do evil leads to sharing their punishment. Learners will understand that her expensive necklace, which she threatened to sell to harm Muslims, will be replaced with a rope of fire around her neck in the afterlife. This lesson introduces the beautiful name of Allah, Al-Mawla (The Protector), helping children understand that Allah is always aware of everything and defends His special servants. Through practical applications and reflection exercises, learners will develop trust that Allah will always take care of them and protect them from all evil.

Beyond the historical narrative, this lesson builds strong Islamic character by teaching younge learners about patience in the face of adversity. Learners will discover how our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ responded to nastiness with calmness and patience, never responding with horrible words despite the cruelty he faced. Through interactive activities and reflection exercises, children will connect these timeless lessons to their daily lives, learning appropriate responses to meanness, understanding the importance of defending what is right, and developing confidence in Allah’s protection when facing challenges or fears.

Help young learners understand the consequences of opposing Allah’s message and discover the true value of good actions with this comprehensive lesson covering the opening Surah al-Masad: Ayahs 1-3. This engaging lesson teaches them about Abu Lahab’s punishment whilst empowering them to use their hands for righteous deeds and understand that wealth cannot protect against divine justice.

Through the compelling narrative of Abu Lahab’s rude response to our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ on Mount Safa, young learners will learn about the importance of respecting Allah’s message and His Messenger. This lesson brilliantly explains how Abu Lahab, despite being the Prophet’s uncle and one of the richest men in Makkah, earned Allah’s curse through his hostile rejection of Islam and his attempts to turn people away from the truth.

Young learners will explore the profound concept that neither wealth nor power can protect anyone from Allah’s punishment. The lesson demonstrates how Abu Lahab’s riches, fame, and social status proved utterly worthless when facing divine justice. They will understand that only being Muslim and performing good deeds can save a person from punishment, reinforcing the fundamental Islamic principle that true success comes through faith and righteous actions.

Beyond the historical narrative, this lesson builds strong Islamic character by teaching children about respect, humility, and the temporary nature of worldly possessions. Learners will develop critical thinking skills about what truly matters in life and understand the importance of supporting rather than opposing Allah’s guidance.

Help young learners understand the consequences of disobedience and the importance of protection from Hell-fire with this essential lesson about Jahannam.

This important lesson teaches learners about Jahannam (Hell-fire) as described in the Qur’an, emphasising the consequences of disbelief and disobedience to Allah. Children will understand the blazing fires, the absence of comfort, and the bitter food and drink of Hell-fire. Most importantly, the lesson focuses on protection through worship of Allah alone, obedience to our beloved Prophet ﷺ, and regular recitation of protective supplications.
