Salah has ended. What happens next? Lesson 6 “End of an Epic Journey,” closes the Y9 salah series, covering the salam, the adhkar after salah, and a full summary of the six-lesson journey.

This lesson covers,

The salam and its meaning are revisited from the previous lesson, with learners asked to identify who receives the greeting, why we feel shy or grateful after salah ends, and what it means to have just stood before Allah.

Seeking forgiveness immediately after salah is explored through the practice of our beloved Prophet ﷺ, with the lesson asking learners to reflect on why istighfar follows salah rather than celebration.

Two adhkar after salah taught in full: the declaration of tawhid from Sahih al-Bukhari affirming Allah’s sole sovereignty, praise, and power, and the duʿa from Abu Dawud asking Allah for help in dhikr, gratitude, and excellence in worship.

The adhkar of sajdah is presented in Arabic with a paired translation activity, in which learners declare that their face has prostrated to the One who created and shaped it, and split its hearing and sight, closing with praise of Allah as the best of creators.

A full summary activity draws together all six lessons, from preparation and wudu through to tashahhud, duʿa, and salam, with learners producing an infographic, mind-map, or poster covering every posture and its spiritual meaning.

Most learners know the movements of salah. This lesson asks what each one means. Lesson 4 from Y9 salah series moves through salah posture by posture, from preparation before the first takbir to standing up from ruku’, linking every physical act to the state of the heart that should accompany it.

This lesson covers,

Preparation before salah is covered as a spiritual act, including the intention behind wudu, dressing well for worship, facing the qiblah, and mentally reminding yourself of who you are about to address, before a single word of salah is spoken.

The takbir and qiyam are explained in depth: raising the hands as an act of surrender and pushing the dunya aside, Allahu Akbar as a statement of Allah’s greatness beyond all things, and standing with lowered gaze and right hand over left in a posture of devoted humility, grounded in Surah al-Baqarah (2:238).

The opening duʿa, isti’adhah, and basmalah are treated as three distinct spiritual acts: greeting and praising Allah, seeking protection from the one who wants to destroy the prayer, and opening with Bismillah as an act of seeking help and blessing from Allah alone.

Qur’an recitation and ruku’ are connected: reciting calmly with tajwid, hearing your own voice, pausing to reflect on what Allah is saying in Surah al-Fatihah, then moving into ruku’ as a strong symbol of submission, praising and glorifying Allah while humbling both the body and the heart simultaneously.

Standing up from ruku’ is presented through the adhkar of Sahih al-Bukhari, including the hadith of Rifaʿah ibn Rafiʿ in which the Prophet ﷺ described thirty-something angels racing to be first to record a companion’s words of praise, giving learners a reason to say these words with full attention.

Praying Salah with Ihsan: Aiming for the Best is the second lesson in the Y9 salah series. It picks up where Lesson 1 left off and pushes further: not just whether the heart is present in salah, but whether it is reaching for the highest level of worship.

This lesson covers,

Uluw al-himmah, defined as high aspiration in worship, is introduced in Surah al-Waqi’ah (56:7–11) and the three categories of people Allah identifies, with the lesson challenging the mindset that praying five times a day is sufficient without the presence of the heart.

Ihsan explained through the hadith of Jibril from Sahih Muslim: worshipping Allah as though you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, knowing that He sees you. Learners revisit the three meanings of ihsan and connect them to their salah.

Two barriers to ihsan identified as desires and doubts, with the lesson guiding learners to steer the mind toward Allah’s majesty, beauty, kindness, love, and generosity as the practical means of removing them.

The spiritual dimension of wudu is covered with reference to ʿUthman ibn ʿAffan, connecting the physical act of purification to the inner preparation of the heart before standing before Allah.

The adhkar after salah is presented in Arabic with translation, asking Allah for help in remembering Him, being grateful to Him, and worshipping Him with excellence, reinforcing the lesson’s theme of ihsan as something actively sought, not passively hoped for.

The Qur’an is so powerful that even those who disbelieved could not resist falling into sajdah upon hearing it. Sajdah at-Tilawah is the lesson introducing young learners to one of the noble gestures of devotion connected to the recitation of the Qur’an.

The lesson opens with a captivating story from the time of our beloved Prophet ﷺ, when he recited Surah an-Najm near the Kaʿbah and every person present, Muslim and disbeliever all fell into sajdah together. Through this remarkable moment in history, learners discover the extraordinary power of the Words of Allah and are introduced to the concept of sajdah at-tilawah: the special prostration performed upon reciting or hearing one of the eleven ayat of sujud found throughout the Qur’an.

Learners also explore a Hadith of our beloved Prophet ﷺ, which reveals that every time a person performs sajdah at-tilawah, Shaytan goes away crying, a deeply motivating reminder of just how powerful this simple act of worship truly is. The lesson then walks learners through the practical conditions and steps for performing sajdah at-tilawah correctly, including the beautiful dhikr to be recited in the prostration itself.

Help your old learners perfect their wudu and salah through this comprehensive lesson. This lesson guides young Muslims through all the fard, sunnah, and mustahabb acts of wudu and salah using an engaging story format. Learners follow Musa as he teaches Ahmad, a new Muslim classmate, the complete method of performing wudu and salah with care and excellence.

This lesson nurtures iḥsān (excellence) by showing children the complete wudu process: making intention, washing hands to the wrists, using miswak, rinsing the mouth and nose, washing the face, arms including elbows, wiping the head and ears, and washing the feet including ankles. Young Muslims learn to perform each act three times, continuously without breaks, whilst not wasting water.

For salah, learners discover the detailed method: standing with intention, raising hands for takbir, placing hands between navel and chest, reciting duʿa al-istiftah, taʿawwudh, basmalah, Surah al-Fatihah and another surah, performing rukuʿ with specific dhikr, rising with tasmiʿ and tahmid, making sajdah touching forehead, nose, palms, knees and toes whilst saying dhikr, sitting between sajdahs, reciting tashahhud, sending salawat, making duʿa, and completing with salam.

Help young learners understand the essential conditions for valid salah with this engaging lesson. Children explore the five conditions that must be met before beginning prayer and discover why dressing well for salah shows that we honour this precious gift from Allah, understanding that we are meeting with our Creator.

Through interactive activities and Qur’anic verses, learners discover the requirements for covering ʿawrah, facing the qiblah, praying on time, making intention, and ensuring purity. The lesson includes clear guidance on what happens if ʿawrah becomes exposed during salah, helping children understand the difference between males and females in covering requirements and when salah must be repeated.

This thoughtfully designed lesson helps young learner understand that salah will only be valid when all conditions are met, just as preparing well to meet a king requires careful attention to detail. Through reflection and practical scenarios, learners discover how to properly prepare for standing before Allah, understanding that showing modesty and respect in our dress demonstrates our love for Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.

Help young learners understand the importance of facing the qiblah with this engaging lesson. They explore how the Kaʿbah unites Muslims worldwide and discover the historical moment when Allah changed the qiblah from al-Masjid al-Aqsa to the Kaʿbah, understanding that we must face the qiblah for our salah to be valid.

Through the amazing story of Masjid Qiblatayn and interactive activities, learners discover that while we turn our bodies towards the Kaʿbah, we should turn our hearts towards the Lord of the Kaʿbah, Allah. The lesson includes practical guidance on finding the qiblah direction using compasses, maps, or the mihrab, helping children understand the 45-degree rule for valid salah.

This thoughtfully designed lesson helps young learners understand that facing the qiblah unites Muslims worldwide in a single direction. Through reflection and practical activities, learners discover how to find the qiblah in different situations, understanding that while physical alignment matters for valid salah, the true essence is turning the heart towards Allah alone.

Introduce young learners to the beautiful adab (manners) of reciting and listening to the Qur’an with this engaging lesson. Through the inspiring story of Salim Mawla Abi Hudhayfah, one of the most beloved Qur’an reciters among the Sahabah, they will discover how showing respect to Allah’s words brings His special care and mercy into their lives.

Through the inspiring story of Salim Mawla Abi Hudhayfah, a beloved Companion who was praised by our beloved Prophet ﷺ for his beautiful recitation, learners discover how proper adab with the Qur’an brings them closer to Allah’s mercy and blessings. This comprehensive lesson combines Islamic knowledge with interactive activities, helping 7+ year olds understand why proper manners matter when engaging with the Qur’an.
