Session 2: Journey Through Life

• Opens with reflection on the nature walk from Session 1, asking what thoughts of Allah emerged whilst observing His magnificent creation
• Explores the four stages of life: on the ground, under the ground, the Day of Judgement, and the eternal abode (Paradise or Hell-Fire), understanding that the first, shortest stage is most important as our status in all other stages depends on how we behave in it

• Discovers the companions on Judgement Day including an angel to drive forward (sa’iq) and another to bear witness (shahid), similar to police arriving with a criminal in court
• Understands the truth becoming clear when the veil of heedlessness is lifted, making one’s sight sharp on that Day
• Explores secrets unveiled when one’s accompanying angel (qarin) presents the ready record, reflecting on what sins Allah is concealing today, how it would feel if unveiled, and taking a moment to sincerely repent
• Examines the verdict against every stubborn disbeliever (kaffar anid), understanding these verses were revealed regarding Walid bin Mughirah, and that kaffar is an exaggeration of kafir showing Allah gave chance upon chance but they remained extremely stubborn
• Identifies five attributes of people of Hell: stubborn disbeliever, withholder of good (manna’), transgressor (mu’tad), doubter (murib), and setting up other gods with Allah
• Engages in deep journalling activity examining personal struggles with stubbornness, withholding good, transgression, and doubt, seeking forgiveness and asking Allah to remove these traits
• Reflects on the debate between leaders and followers, and between individuals and the devil, who will claim he did not make them transgress but rather they were far astray on their own
• Understands it’s too late for disputes as Allah had already given warning through the Quran and Messengers, and that the verdict is final as Allah’s word cannot be changed and He is never unjust to His servants through His perfect knowledge and perfect justice

Session 4: An Easy Resurrection

• Opens with reflection on strategies and techniques used when going through difficult times
• Explores outcome of rejection through understanding that Allah destroyed peoples far mightier who built strong civilisations and roamed lands searching for rizq, yet when torment came they desperately sought refuge with no escape, reflecting on whether we subconsciously think wealth and power will protect us
• Discovers that the reminder is for those who have three conditions: a mindful heart (qalb), directing their sense of hearing completely to the One who is speaking (alqa al-sam’), and having their hearts and minds present during the experience (shahid), reflecting on why this verse mentions “one with a heart” when we all have hearts
• Learns from Ibn al-Qayyim’s wisdom that to benefit from the Quran one must gather the heart when it is recited, focus hearing, and act like being directly addressed by Allah, as it is an address from Him upon the tongue of His Messenger ﷺ
• Explores interacting with the Quran through four steps: tartil (recitation), tafsir (understanding), tadabbur (reflecting), and tatbiq (applying)
• Practises tadabbur through three questions for reflection: what is Allah telling me in this verse, how does this apply to my life now, and what action will I take based on this
• Understands that reciting the Quran as it should be recited means the tongue, mind, and heart all take part together, where the tongue’s duty is to pronounce letters correctly and recite beautifully, the mind’s duty is to explore meanings, and the heart’s duty is to take heed and be responsive with alarm and eagerness to comply
• Reflects on connection to the start through understanding that Allah created the heavens, earth, and everything between in six days without being touched with fatigue (lugub, not even an ounce of tiredness), understanding the reason for revelation and reflecting on why creation is mentioned again and what Allah is proving
• Discovers the remedy part one through being patient with what people say and glorifying the praises of Allah before sunrise and before sunset, discussing why Allah asks for patience, what sabr truly is, and why Allah sends trials
• Understands sabr as endurance, contentment with Allah’s decree, persevering towards goals, and not losing control of oneself, recognising that sabr is not passive but rather active perseverance in the face of obstacles whilst staying focused and self-controlled during challenges
• Engages in reflection activity on recent struggles (family disagreements/misunderstandings, work difficulties/high stress, religious personal struggles/criticism from others, Islamophobia discrimination/negative remarks), examining how one reacted, whether frustration took over, what the outcome was, and how one could have acted with sabr
• Explores the remedy part two through understanding that tasbih and hamd are powerful weapons, that morning and evening dhikr connects physical signs around us to our Creator, that when glorifying Allah one has a direct link with Him enabling contentment, reassurance, and patience, committing to setting a daily adhkar routine, and reflecting on how dhikr has helped during difficult times
• Discovers the remedy part three through glorifying Allah during part of the night and after prayers, understanding that Allah emphasises the night frequently in the Quran, that whilst the body rests through sleeping the soul rests through qiyam, that al-sujud indicates salah with sujud being the most important part, that adhkar after salah includes the Prophet ﷺ immediately saying astaghfirullah, and that this could also refer to sunnah salahs after fard
• Returns to back to the Final Day when the caller will call from a near place (Zamakhshari mentions the rock of Al-Quds as the closest part of earth to sky and centre of earth) so the call reaches everyone equally at the same time
• Reflects on the mighty blast when all will hear it in all truth on the Day of emergence from graves
• Understands the royal We through repetition emphasising that it is certainly Allah Who gives life and causes death, and to Him is the final return
• Contemplates back to the point when the earth will split open letting people rush forth, understanding that gathering will be easy for Allah, reflecting on how this verse makes one feel
• Discovers the All-Aware knows best what people say, that our beloved Prophet ﷺ was not there to compel belief, that guidance comes from Allah alone, that our role is to share the truth trusting the outcome is in His hands, and reflecting on how we are conveying Allah’s message and whether we are giving it its due right
• Understands the Quran as the best reminder, that we need to constantly turn to it and reflect on it, that the Quran is our methodology and fuel needed to navigate all of life’s challenges, discussing who benefits from the reminder
• Reflects deeply on how relationship with the Quran has changed over the last four weeks and what one wants the relationship to look like going forwards

Session 4: A Journey Through Surah Qaf – The Final Clue: The Heart First

• Begins by learning from the past, reflecting on nations who were tall, physically powerful, and built lofty strong buildings yet were destroyed despite their wealth and power, understanding that no amount of worldly strength can protect against Allah’s decree
• Discovers the three conditions of benefitting from the Quran’s reminder: having a heart that is alive and healthy, directing one’s sense of hearing completely to the One who is speaking (alqa al-sam’), and having one’s heart and mind present (shahid) during the experience
• Understands that reciting the Quran properly means engaging the tongue, mind, and heart together, where the tongue recites with precision, the mind reflects on the meaning, and the heart responds with sincerity and eagerness to act

• Explores sabr as the remedy for trials, understanding that sabr is active steadfastness and self-control, not passive waiting, combined with the powerful weapon of dhikr and remembering Allah through salah at specified times
• Learns the three types of sabr: sabr in obeying Allah (such as waking for Fajr when exhausted), sabr in staying away from sins (such as resisting peer pressure to gossip), and sabr in regards to trials Allah has decreed (such as failing an exam despite studying hard)
• Applies sabr to real-life scenarios including responding when parents ask for help during holidays, dealing with racist remarks, handling sibling conflicts over belongings, and managing online negativity from friends
• Reflects on the mighty blast that will be called from a nearby place so everyone hears it equally and simultaneously, understanding that people will come out from their graves on the Day when they hear it in reality
• Discovers that the final return is to Allah, with repeated emphasis on ‘We’ showing that giving life and death is easy for Him, and the gathering will be easy when the earth splits apart on that Day
• Understands the Quran as the best reminder, learning that our beloved Prophet ﷺ was sent only to convey the message not to force belief, that guidance comes from Allah alone whilst our role is to share the truth, and noticing the powerful connection between the beginning and ending of this surah
• Engages in the Quran promotion activity, designing creative adverts in groups explaining why everyone (Muslims and non-Muslims) needs the Quran, being assessed on both design and content whilst remembering that less is more
