Most learners know the movements of salah. This lesson asks what each one means. Lesson 4 from Y9 salah series moves through salah posture by posture, from preparation before the first takbir to standing up from ruku’, linking every physical act to the state of the heart that should accompany it.

This lesson covers,

Preparation before salah is covered as a spiritual act, including the intention behind wudu, dressing well for worship, facing the qiblah, and mentally reminding yourself of who you are about to address, before a single word of salah is spoken.

The takbir and qiyam are explained in depth: raising the hands as an act of surrender and pushing the dunya aside, Allahu Akbar as a statement of Allah’s greatness beyond all things, and standing with lowered gaze and right hand over left in a posture of devoted humility, grounded in Surah al-Baqarah (2:238).

The opening duʿa, isti’adhah, and basmalah are treated as three distinct spiritual acts: greeting and praising Allah, seeking protection from the one who wants to destroy the prayer, and opening with Bismillah as an act of seeking help and blessing from Allah alone.

Qur’an recitation and ruku’ are connected: reciting calmly with tajwid, hearing your own voice, pausing to reflect on what Allah is saying in Surah al-Fatihah, then moving into ruku’ as a strong symbol of submission, praising and glorifying Allah while humbling both the body and the heart simultaneously.

Standing up from ruku’ is presented through the adhkar of Sahih al-Bukhari, including the hadith of Rifaʿah ibn Rafiʿ in which the Prophet ﷺ described thirty-something angels racing to be first to record a companion’s words of praise, giving learners a reason to say these words with full attention.

A lesson on the ṣalāh and khushūʿ of our beloved Prophet ﷺ, why we struggle with khushūʿ, and the healing power of ṣalāh.

The ṣalāh of our beloved Prophet ﷺ: The lesson draws on accounts from ʿĀʾishah رضي الله عنها and the Hadith of Hudhayfah رضي الله عنه to describe how the Prophet ﷺ prayed his weeping, his prolonged standing after rukūʿ, his lowered head, and the account of ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib رضي الله عنه of finding him praying and crying under a tree until the morning of Badr.

Why we lack khushūʿ: Four causes are examined: weak īmān, love of the dunyā and materialism, sins, and hedonism and apathy. Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله is quoted: if you find no sweetness or joy in a deed, doubt its sincerity, for Allah is ash-Shakūr.

Adhkār within ṣalāh: Two adhkār are introduced with their sources the istiftāḥ from Muslim, with the account of twelve angels competing to carry it up, and the duʿa between the two sajdahs from Abū Dāwūd asking Allah for forgiveness, mercy, wellbeing, guidance, and sustenance.

Ṣalāh and mental health: Qur’an 2:45–46 is quoted on seeking help through patience and ṣalāh, and the prophetic phrase “grant us rest through ṣalāh” is introduced. The lesson asks learners to write the verse and reflect on what it means for their own relationship with ṣalāh.

Describing the Prophet’s ﷺ ṣalāh: As a closing reflection, learners are asked to imagine they witnessed the Prophet ﷺ pray as a child and are now describing that ṣalāh to their grandchildren drawing together everything covered in the lesson into a single, personal response.

Session 7 takes learners deep into the verses of the Qur’an, reflecting on the āyāt of ḥajj in Sūrah al-Baqarah and Sūrah al-Ḥajj to uncover the greater goals and inner dimensions of this sacred journey. Through guided reflection, group discussion, and personal contemplation, learners will discover that the Qur’an places greater emphasis on the heart in the āyāt of ḥajj than in any other pillar of Islam, with taqwā and dhikr at the very centre of it all.

In Session 7, learners will:

Reflect on the āyāt of Sūrah al-Baqarah, exploring themes of taqwā, sincere intention, self-control, dhikr, and the balance between duʿa for this world and the Hereafter.

Engage deeply with Sūrah al-Ḥajj, uncovering Quranic insights on tawhid, sacrifice, gratitude, honouring the symbols of Allah, and the qualities of the humble believer.

Connect the outer rites of ḥajj to the inner state of the heart, understanding how every physical act of worship is designed to nurture taqwā, dhikr, and closeness to Allah.

Identify one lasting takeaway, carrying the Quranic message of dhikr and taqwā forward as the foundation of a transformed life beyond ḥajj.

Help young learners develop unwavering commitment to salah through this powerful lesson. This lesson guides young Muslims to understand the profound importance of never missing salah through the inspiring story of ʿUmar ibn al-Khattab, who even whilst fatally wounded insisted on praying. They learn that salah is their direct connection (silah) to Allah and discover how to stay strong against Shaytan’s tricks.

This lesson nurtures ʿubūdiyyah (servitude to Allah) by teaching learner that salah is the most important act of worship. The word ‘salah’ comes from ‘silah’ meaning connection, showing how we stay connected to our Loving Lord. Young Muslims learn that in salah, we have a private, one-to-one conversation with Allah five times daily, praising Him, thanking Him, asking for help, and humbling ourselves before Him.

The lesson emphasizes that once children turn seven, they should start praying, and by age ten should pray all five daily salahs independently. Once mature (baligh), deliberately missing salah becomes one of the biggest sins. Through a powerful Hadith, learners discover that those who don’t take care of their prayers will be with Qarun, Firʿawn, Haman, and Ubayy ibn Khalaf on the Day of Judgement.

Master the Essential Rules of Fasting with Clarity and Confidence

Help young learners understand the pillars and rulings of fasting through this comprehensive lesson. This lesson guides young Muslims to fast correctly by understanding the two pillars of fasting, identifying what breaks the fast, and learning when Allah permits us to break our fast. Through clear explanations and practical scenarios, learners develop confidence in their worship whilst appreciating Islam’s beautiful mercy and ease.

This lesson nurtures ʿubūdiyyah (servitude to Allah) by teaching them that fasting demonstrates self-control, patience, and submission to Allah. Young Muslims learn the two essential pillars: making a sincere intention before fajr for obligatory fasts (or later for sunnah fasts if nothing has been consumed), and abstaining from food and drink from fajr until maghrib.

Through prophetic guidance, learners discover the four main actions that break the fast: eating or drinking intentionally, vomiting intentionally, chewing anything with flavour, and taking medication by mouth or injection. The lesson beautifully emphasizes Islam’s ease by explaining that eating or drinking forgetfully doesn’t break the fast, as the Prophet ﷺ taught: “Allah has fed him and given him drink.”

This lesson cultivates yaqīn (certainty) about fiqh rulings whilst highlighting Allah’s mercy in permitting those who are ill or travelling to break their fast and make it up later.

Maximize the Blessings of Ramadan Through Purposeful Worship

Help young learners embrace Ramadan as the best month of the year through this inspiring lesson.

This lesson guides young Muslims to make the most of Ramadan by discovering the main good deeds to focus on, understanding the special significance of the last ten nights, and learning how our beloved Prophet ﷺ maximized this blessed month. Through Qur’anic reflection and practical planning, learners prepare to race towards Jannah through meaningful worship.
This lesson nurtures ʿubūdiyyah (servitude to Allah) by teaching learners that Ramadan is the month of forgiveness, mercy, and blessings when the gates of Hell-fire are closed, the gates of Paradise are opened, and the devils are locked up. Young Muslims discover five essential good deeds for Ramadan: qiyam al-layl (night prayer), Qur’an recitation, duʿa, dhikr, and being generous and helping others.

Through beautiful Hadith, learners discover how our beloved Prophet ﷺ was the most generous of all people, especially during Ramadan when Angel Jibril would meet him every night to study the Qur’an together. Young learners learn that the Prophet’s ﷺ generosity was like strong winds bringing rain, spreading benefit and goodness to everyone.

This lesson cultivates iḥsān (excellence) and tazkiyah (purification of the heart), teaching learners that worshipping Allah and staying away from bad things cleans the heart and brings peace and happiness.

Help young learners discover the profound secrets of fasting through this enganing lesson. This lesson guides young Muslims beyond simply giving up food and drink, revealing that fasting is one of the greatest acts of worship with hidden treasures that strengthen taqwa, build self-discipline, and cultivate ikhlas (sincerity). Through engaging activities and prophetic wisdom, learners explore the three levels of fasting and how to make their fast truly special.

This lesson nurtures taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) by teaching children that fasting’s greatest purpose is protecting ourselves from Allah’s punishment by avoiding His prohibitions and implementing His commands. Young Muslims learn that when we fast, we build self-discipline by saying “NO” to our nafs (inner self) and its desires, making it easier to stay away from haram throughout the year.

This lesson cultivates ikhlas (sincerity) and ʿubūdiyyah (servitude to Allah), teaching children that fasting is a special act done only for Allah’s pleasure, with rewards known only to Him.
