Salah has ended. What happens next? Lesson 6 “End of an Epic Journey,” closes the Y9 salah series, covering the salam, the adhkar after salah, and a full summary of the six-lesson journey.

This lesson covers,

The salam and its meaning are revisited from the previous lesson, with learners asked to identify who receives the greeting, why we feel shy or grateful after salah ends, and what it means to have just stood before Allah.

Seeking forgiveness immediately after salah is explored through the practice of our beloved Prophet ﷺ, with the lesson asking learners to reflect on why istighfar follows salah rather than celebration.

Two adhkar after salah taught in full: the declaration of tawhid from Sahih al-Bukhari affirming Allah’s sole sovereignty, praise, and power, and the duʿa from Abu Dawud asking Allah for help in dhikr, gratitude, and excellence in worship.

The adhkar of sajdah is presented in Arabic with a paired translation activity, in which learners declare that their face has prostrated to the One who created and shaped it, and split its hearing and sight, closing with praise of Allah as the best of creators.

A full summary activity draws together all six lessons, from preparation and wudu through to tashahhud, duʿa, and salam, with learners producing an infographic, mind-map, or poster covering every posture and its spiritual meaning.

Sujud is the closest a person gets to Allah. Lesson 5 of the Y9 salah series covers the final stretch of salah: from sajdah to salam.

This lesson covers,

Sujud explained as the greatest pillar of salah, grounded in Surah al-ʿAlaq (96:19), with learners asked to reflect on how it embodies complete servitude, why duʿa is accepted in this posture, and why the body should settle and not rush.

The duʿa between the two sajdahs is presented in Arabic with translation, رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي, with the lesson making clear this short repeated plea is not a formality but a moment of sincere request for forgiveness between two acts of prostration.

The tashahhud covered word by word, with al-tahiyyat, al-salawat, and al-tayyibat defined, the salam upon the Prophet ﷺ and the righteous servants explained, and the shahada placed at the heart of this closing declaration of salah.

The salawat on the Prophet ﷺ is taught with vocabulary, giving learners the meaning behind the words they send upon our beloved Prophet ﷺ at the end of every prayer.

Two duʿas after tashahhud are covered: the confession of wrongdoing asking Allah al-Ghafur al-Rahim for forgiveness from Himself, and the duʿa from Sahih Muslim seeking protection from the punishment of the fire, the grave, the trials of life and death, and the trial of al-Masih al-Dajjal.

Most learners know the movements of salah. This lesson asks what each one means. Lesson 4 from Y9 salah series moves through salah posture by posture, from preparation before the first takbir to standing up from ruku’, linking every physical act to the state of the heart that should accompany it.

This lesson covers,

Preparation before salah is covered as a spiritual act, including the intention behind wudu, dressing well for worship, facing the qiblah, and mentally reminding yourself of who you are about to address, before a single word of salah is spoken.

The takbir and qiyam are explained in depth: raising the hands as an act of surrender and pushing the dunya aside, Allahu Akbar as a statement of Allah’s greatness beyond all things, and standing with lowered gaze and right hand over left in a posture of devoted humility, grounded in Surah al-Baqarah (2:238).

The opening duʿa, isti’adhah, and basmalah are treated as three distinct spiritual acts: greeting and praising Allah, seeking protection from the one who wants to destroy the prayer, and opening with Bismillah as an act of seeking help and blessing from Allah alone.

Qur’an recitation and ruku’ are connected: reciting calmly with tajwid, hearing your own voice, pausing to reflect on what Allah is saying in Surah al-Fatihah, then moving into ruku’ as a strong symbol of submission, praising and glorifying Allah while humbling both the body and the heart simultaneously.

Standing up from ruku’ is presented through the adhkar of Sahih al-Bukhari, including the hadith of Rifaʿah ibn Rafiʿ in which the Prophet ﷺ described thirty-something angels racing to be first to record a companion’s words of praise, giving learners a reason to say these words with full attention.

The Mother of the Book is the third lesson in the Y9 salah series. It takes a surah recited a minimum of seventeen times every day and asks a question most learners have never stopped to consider: have you ever wondered why?

This lesson covers,

The names and virtues of Surah al-Fatihah are covered, including the Mother of the Qur’an, the Seven Oft-Repeated ayat, and the Cure, with the story of Jibril (as) sitting with the Prophet ﷺ introducing the lesson.

A word-by-word Arabic vocabulary study works through each ayah, distinguishing al-Rahman from al-Rahim, and defining ibadah as utmost humility combined with utmost love, and isti’anah as complete reliance on Allah to help fulfil our purpose.

The three groups in the final ayah are identified and explained using Surah al-Nisa’ (4:69), distinguishing those upon whom Allah has bestowed favour from those who earned anger and those who went astray.

The hadith qudsi from Sahih Muslim on the conversation between Allah and His servant during salah is presented in full Arabic, showing how Allah responds to each ayah as it is recited, ayah by ayah.

The adhkar of ruku’ are presented in Arabic with translation, including the glorification of Allah as Owner of might, dominion, grandeur, and greatness, and the du’a of full submission in which hearing, sight, mind, bones, and nerves are offered in humility to Allah alone.

Praying Salah with Ihsan: Aiming for the Best is the second lesson in the Y9 salah series. It picks up where Lesson 1 left off and pushes further: not just whether the heart is present in salah, but whether it is reaching for the highest level of worship.

This lesson covers,

Uluw al-himmah, defined as high aspiration in worship, is introduced in Surah al-Waqi’ah (56:7–11) and the three categories of people Allah identifies, with the lesson challenging the mindset that praying five times a day is sufficient without the presence of the heart.

Ihsan explained through the hadith of Jibril from Sahih Muslim: worshipping Allah as though you see Him, and if you cannot see Him, knowing that He sees you. Learners revisit the three meanings of ihsan and connect them to their salah.

Two barriers to ihsan identified as desires and doubts, with the lesson guiding learners to steer the mind toward Allah’s majesty, beauty, kindness, love, and generosity as the practical means of removing them.

The spiritual dimension of wudu is covered with reference to ʿUthman ibn ʿAffan, connecting the physical act of purification to the inner preparation of the heart before standing before Allah.

The adhkar after salah is presented in Arabic with translation, asking Allah for help in remembering Him, being grateful to Him, and worshipping Him with excellence, reinforcing the lesson’s theme of ihsan as something actively sought, not passively hoped for.

This lesson covers.

Khushu defined and explained using Surah al-Mu’minun (23:1–11), with the Arabic term understood as the heart’s state of complete humility and submission before Allah, which the body then reflects.

Practical means of attaining khushu are covered, including understanding the words of salah, varying the adhkar, slowing down in each posture, and making duʿa for tawfiq.

The five categories of worshippers are set out in detail, from the one careless in wudu and timings who will be punished, to the one whose heart beholds his Lord and who will be brought close to Him.
