Hajj: A Journey of a Lifetime is a rich, interactive workshop series designed to help learners unlock the true secrets, wisdom, and inner realities of ḥajj, long before they set foot on sacred ground. Session 1 lays the foundation by exploring the goals and virtues of ḥajj and guiding learners through both spiritual and physical preparation, reminding us of a truth often forgotten in the rush of logistics and planning: the path to Allah is not a journey taken by the feet. It is the journey of the heart. Rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah and drawing on the wisdom of scholars such as Ibn al-Jawzī and Ibn al-Qayyim, learners are invited into a deeply reflective experience through guided activities, group discussion, and honest self-examination. Unlike a standard fiqh class, this workshop is an immersive, soul-centred experience that prepares the whole person for one of the most profound acts of worship in Islam.

In Session 1, learners will:

Explore the goals and virtues of ḥajj, reflecting on what this once-in-a-lifetime journey truly means and how to maximise their intentions for multiplied reward.

Engage in sincere spiritual preparation, including tawbah, cultivating gratitude, building patience, and detaching the heart from worldly attachments.

Make duʿa to Allah al-Fattāḥ, the Supreme Opener, asking Him to open their hearts and prepare them to absorb the inner realities of ḥajj.

Build a personal duʿa list, reflecting on hopes, regrets, and dreams, and remembering the ummah, including those suffering across the world, in their supplications.

Participate in a communal ukhuwwah activity, writing a duʿa anonymously and carrying a fellow learner’s duʿa all the way to the sacred precincts of Makkah.

Zakah is far more than a financial obligation, it is a purification of the heart, a declaration of love for Allah above all else, and one of the pillars of Islam. This engaging lesson about zakah guiding young learners into the deeper secrets and practical workings of this important act of worship.

The lesson opens with a powerful story from Islamic history: the brave decision of Abu Bakr after the passing of our beloved Prophet ﷺ. When some Arab tribes refused to pay zakah, arguing it was no longer obligatory, Abu Bakr stood firm with remarkable conviction declaring that he would fight anyone who made a distinction between salah and zakah, for zakah is the right of wealth. Through this young learners come to understand just how seriously the Sahabah took this pillar of Islam.

The lesson then explores the deeper secrets of zakah: how it cleanses both wealth and heart, purifying the soul from greed and arrogance, and reminding the believer that all wealth is a trust from Allah. Think of a fruit that looks fresh and perfect on the outside. But inside, a tiny worm is slowly eating it. You cannot see the damage at first, but the fruit is getting spoiled. Learners are also introduced to the concept of nisab and guided through the straightforward calculation of zakah at 2.5%, using relatable, real-life scenarios.

This profound session invites adult learners to reflect on the impact of Allah’s closeness, practise taking an audit of their actions, and explore the characteristics of the people of Hell whilst developing strategies to avoid them.

Session 2: Journey Through Life

Opens with reflection on the nature walk from Session 1, asking what thoughts of Allah emerged whilst observing His magnificent creation

Explores the four stages of life: on the ground, under the ground, the Day of Judgement, and the eternal abode (Paradise or Hell-Fire), understanding that the first, shortest stage is most important as our status in all other stages depends on how we behave in it

Reflects on Allah’s might in creation, understanding that recreating is easier than creating from scratch, and that disbelievers are in confusion (labs) about their recreation

Contemplates the human being as the biggest proof of Allah’s existence, power, and might, sharing amazing facts about human creation whilst understanding that Allah fully knows what our souls whisper

Discovers that Allah’s absolute knowledge extends from grand things (mentioned in verse 4) to minutiae, inspiring taqwa so that we wouldn’t dare say a single word that displeases Allah or even dwell on bad thoughts

Reflects on Allah being closer than our jugular vein, understanding that just as the jugular vein is close yet can go unnoticed, Allah’s presence is near even if not always perceived, recognising as Imam Qushayri said that this verse brings awe, dread, and fear for one group whilst comfort, solace, and peace for another

Learns about the two recording angels sitting on the right and left, discovering that the angel on the left delays registering sins for six hours to allow for repentance and seeking forgiveness, revealing Allah’s mercy

Understands that not a single word is uttered without a vigilant observer (raqib) ready to write it down diligently (atid), reflecting on why the recording of speech is particularly emphasised

Completes the daily audit challenge, writing down positive/kind things and negative/hurtful things said or done in the last 24 hours

Explores death and resurrection, understanding that the throes of death (sakrah) bring an overwhelming, almost drunken state that even our beloved Prophet ﷺ felt, that at death reality becomes clear with no denial (bil-haqq), and that we all know death is certain yet delay preparing for it (tahid)

Reflects on the trumpet being blown for the Day of warning, understanding that the angel has already placed it on his lips awaiting the command, and writing how one would spend today if the trumpet were to be blown tomorrow

Discovers the companions on Judgement Day including an angel to drive forward (sa’iq) and another to bear witness (shahid), similar to police arriving with a criminal in court

Understands the truth becoming clear when the veil of heedlessness is lifted, making one’s sight sharp on that Day

Explores secrets unveiled when one’s accompanying angel (qarin) presents the ready record, reflecting on what sins Allah is concealing today, how it would feel if unveiled, and taking a moment to sincerely repent

Examines the verdict against every stubborn disbeliever (kaffar anid), understanding these verses were revealed regarding Walid bin Mughirah, and that kaffar is an exaggeration of kafir showing Allah gave chance upon chance but they remained extremely stubborn

Identifies five attributes of people of Hell: stubborn disbeliever, withholder of good (manna’), transgressor (mu’tad), doubter (murib), and setting up other gods with Allah

Engages in deep journalling activity examining personal struggles with stubbornness, withholding good, transgression, and doubt, seeking forgiveness and asking Allah to remove these traits

Reflects on the debate between leaders and followers, and between individuals and the devil, who will claim he did not make them transgress but rather they were far astray on their own

Understands it’s too late for disputes as Allah had already given warning through the Quran and Messengers, and that the verdict is final as Allah’s word cannot be changed and He is never unjust to His servants through His perfect knowledge and perfect justice

Perfect for adult learners in Islamic study circles, community programmes, and Ramadan preparations, this presentation nurtures hearts through authentic Quranic tarbiyah rooted in the values of pure heart, responsibility, and certainty.

This inspiring session invites adult learners to reflect on the importance of the heart, learn how to develop a heart that always turns to Allah, and explore the characteristics of the people of Jannah.

Session 3: Heaven & Hell

Opens with imagine your outcome starter activity, writing on post-it notes how one would feel hearing either the announcement of entry into Jannah with eternal peace and bliss, or condemnation to Hell-fire with no escape or relief

Explores the shiver-inducing verse where Allah asks Hell if it is full yet and it responds asking if there are any more, understanding that Hell will become full yet there will always be room for more as current people get squashed and constricted further, and that Hell is so huge that despite huge numbers entering, there will be room for more

Reflects on the contrast with the pleasant, calm, and friendly scene where Paradise will be brought near (uzlifat) to the righteous, showing honour with every word as Paradise is brought near so they don’t have to trouble themselves by going to it

Discovers the people of Paradise through four characteristics: awwab (the one who constantly returns to his Lord and always repents to Allah), hafiz (protector who guards eyes, ears, and all senses from anything haram and from crossing Allah’s boundaries), who were in awe of the Most Compassionate without seeing Him (khashyah equals fear plus glorification), and have come with a heart turning only to Him (qalb munib, a sincere heart that is always turning to Allah and remembers its sins in private whilst seeking repentance)

Reflects on feeling unworthy of Jannah because of sins, and how these verses shift one’s perspective on the characteristics of the people of Jannah

Understands repentance and the heart through noticing that Allah mentions the people of Jannah starting with repentance (awwab) and ending with repentance (munib), that every act of worship has an outer and inner aspect, and that focusing on the inner allows the outer to follow in course

Explores the profound goal of reaching the level of inabah, which consists of repeatedly turning to Allah with love and humility whilst turning away from other than Him

Engages in write a letter activity, thinking of a recent sin and writing a letter to Allah begging forgiveness by acknowledging one’s lowly status, begging, promising to try one’s best never to return to the sin, and asking Allah to help one stay away from it

Reflects on how the activity made one feel, what stops one from turning to Allah in repentance, and what steps can be taken to ensure one is always turning to Allah and focused on Him

Discovers the best welcome where people of Jannah will enter in peace (salam) on the Day of eternal life (yawm al-khulud), understanding that salam has two meanings (peace and greetings) with both intended, that salam and eternal peace and serenity is the ultimate goal, and that this dunya is not a place of peace, whilst the best greeting will insha’Allah be “Salam, a word from the Most Merciful Lord”

Explores everything you’ve ever wished through understanding there are two types of naim in Jannah (physical and spiritual), and that with Allah is even more (mazid)

Contemplates what ‘more’ refers to, understanding it is the gift of seeing Allah, and that the greatest joy a believer will enjoy in the hereafter will be the joy of seeing Allah and meeting Him, an experience no words can describe, and that when people of Jannah see Allah with their very own eyes they will forget all previous blessings given to them in Paradise

Creates your Jannah vision, understanding that the Companions felt like the hereafter was very real which motivated them and kept them on track, and that as humans we need a reminder of Jannah to motivate us, drawing or describing ideal Jannah whilst engaging all senses

Learns using your Jannah vision by understanding that Allah gives tribulations and trials to help us wake up and turn to Him out of His mercy as He wants eternal happiness and bliss for us, and that next time facing a trial one should take out the vision board, wear akhirah glasses to shift perspective, refocus on the goal, and take action by identifying steps needed to stay on the right path (patience, dua, steadfastness, repentance)

Perfect for adult learners in Islamic study circles, community programmes, and Ramadan preparations, this presentation nurtures hearts through authentic Quranic tarbiyah rooted in the values of love, pure heart, and servitude.

This session invites teenagers to explore the immense size of Jahannam and the eternal bliss of Jannah, examining the characteristics of the people of Paradise and reflecting on the ultimate rewards awaiting the righteous.

Session 3: A Journey Through Surah Qaf – Dreams Come True

Begins with a powerful exploration of Jahannam’s terrifying nature, understanding its enormous size through the verse where Hell asks if there is more, revealing that there will always be room for more inhabitants who become squashed and constricted

Reflects on the profound reality that Jahannam is surrounded by desires whilst Jannah is surrounded by hardships, understanding that surrendering to desires leads one towards the Fire

Discovers the four characteristics of the people of Paradise: constantly returning to Allah (awwab), protecting oneself from haram and Allah’s boundaries (hafiz), holding the Most Gracious in awe though He is unseen (khashyah), and coming before Him with a heart turned to Him in devotion (munib)

Explores the importance of the heart in our din, understanding that a munib heart is one that is always turning to Allah through inabah

Engages in the crumpled paper heart activity, writing a heartfelt letter to Allah begging for forgiveness, acknowledging one’s lowly status, and promising to try never to return to sin

Reflects on the honour of the people of Jannah as Paradise will be brought close to them, no longer distant, and they will enter it in peace on the Day of everlasting life

Understands that the best welcome awaits believers with eternal peace and serenity, including the greeting of “Salam” from the Most Merciful Lord

Explores the promise that people of Jannah will have literally anything they wish for plus mazid, the ultimate gift, reflecting on what this additional blessing might be

Watches and reflects on the phenomenal experience of seeing Allah, understanding that the greatest joy a believer will enjoy in the hereafter will be the joy of seeing and meeting their Lord, an experience beyond words

Creates their ideal Jannah through artistic expression, choosing to draw, sketch, write poetry, spoken word, or descriptive pieces, engaging all their senses in the competition activity

Perfect for teenage learners in madrasahs, homeschools, and Islamic study circles, this presentation nurtures hearts through authentic Quranic tarbiyah rooted in the values of love, pure heart, and servitude.
